Team registration for the 2016-17 season of Destination Imagination is officially open! If your child is creative, is crazy about puzzles, loves to paint and draw, can build anything out of cardboard boxes, writes amazing stories, thinks up whimsical new worlds, is totally into science, or has rewired your toaster into a working time machine (or wants to), then your child will love Destination Imagination!
Destination Imagination (DI) Challenges are all about fostering creativity, courage and curiosity, and teaching students how to think, not what to think. Each year, we offer seven different open-ended Challenges in the fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics), fine arts, service learning, and early learning.
Schools throughout 30+ countries often run DI as an after-school program or incorporate it into their electives curriculum. If your school doesn’t offer DI, however, your children can still participate.
How does it work?
Students form a team (2-7 members) and work with a Team Manager (often a parent or teacher) who helps the team stay on track throughout the season, but does not directly help the team with its solution to the DI Challenge. After the team chooses their preferred DI Challenge (i.e., Engineering, Scientific, Fine Arts), they will begin working on a solution to that Challenge. Students typically work on solutions for 2-4 months. Teams then have the opportunity to showcase their Challenge solutions to trained Appraisers at a tournament.
Most importantly, students will have fun learning throughout the process and gain confidence in their ability to solve any challenge. They will also learn 21st century skills (creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, citizenship and courage), step outside of their comfort zones to pursue ideas and make presentations, make new friends and build on their unique strengths.

Please note: Because the start of the school year varies for many students, the Program Materials (which includes copies of the Team Challenges, Roadmap and Rules of the Road) will not be made available until September 1, 2016 to help even the DI playing field for all who participate. Purchasers who have already pre-ordered their 2016-17 DI team registration will receive their Team Numbers(s) today.
