It’s time to officially kick off a brand new season of the Destination Imagination! The 2016-17 Team Challenges, as well as our Roadmap and Rules of the Road resources, are now available for download in the Resource Area. In order to view or download these materials, you must have a 2016-17 Team Number. (Please note: Program Materials can only be downloaded by the purchaser—Team Manager, school administrator, parent, etc.) If you don’t have a Team Number, you can purchase one here on our ShopDI.org site.
WHAT IS DESTINATION IMAGINATION?
Destination Imagination (DI) isn’t just an education program; it’s one that changes students’ lives. Each year, our volunteer educators and industry experts develop seven new academic Challenges that incorporate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) and social entrepreneurship. Our Challenges are designed to inspire young people to engage their innate curiosity while learning about structural engineering, science, automotive design, theatrical techniques, improvisation, social entrepreneurship and more. In solving one of our Challenges, students become better at collaboration, creative and critical thinking, and problem solving, and learn the skills needed to succeed in school, their careers and beyond. Take a look at our video below to see why students, educators, parents and innovative companies like NASA support our program each year.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Students form a team (2-7 members) and recruit a Team Manager (often a parent or teacher) who helps the team stay on track throughout the season, but does not directly help the team with its solution to the DI Challenge. After the team chooses their preferred DI Challenge (i.e., Technical, Scientific, Fine Arts), they will begin working on a solution to that Challenge. Students typically work on solutions for 2-4 months. Teams then have the opportunity to showcase their Challenge solutions to trained Appraisers at a tournament, as well as speak with their Appraisers about their solutions and how they came up with their ideas.
