Thanks to a recent grant from Motorola Solutions Foundation, Destination Imagination will have the opportunity to further extend its program in the U.S. and abroad, including enhancing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and 21st century skills initiatives for students worldwide.
The Innovation Generation program awards organizations such as Destination Imagination that foster and support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) initiatives for teachers and U.S. preschool through university students – especially girls and underrepresented minorities.
“Destination Imagination and Motorola Solutions Foundation recognize the sense of urgency to not only engage more students in STEM but to teach students to think differently in order to thrive in an emerging and competitive global STEM workforce,” said Dr. Chuck Cadle, CEO of Destination Imagination. “With the help of the Innovation Generation Grant, DI will continue to develop academic challenges that will help prepare students for new, innovative opportunities that will be presented in the emerging STEM economy.”
The Motorola Solutions Foundation grant program overall will impact about 900,000 students and teachers, each receiving an average of 100 programming hours from our partner non-profit organizations and institutions. Programs will support special populations including girls and women, underrepresented minorities, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, people with disabilities and the military.
“The Motorola Solutions Foundation created the Innovation Generation Grant program eight years ago to support educational experiences that spark students to turn their dreams into the innovations that will shape our society’s future,” said Matt Blakely, director of the Motorola Solutions Foundation. “Organizations like Destination Imagination are teaching tomorrow’s leaders that careers in engineering and technology are not only fun, but also within their reach.”
Motorola is a global leader in the communications field and we are extremely grateful for their support as we continue to inspire and equip the next generation of future innovators worldwide.
