Amazing Invention Photo Challenge Winners Announced

Thank you to all of the families who got creative with us for the Amazing Invention Photo Challenge, inspired by Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Moana. With so many innovative designs, it was a close race… but the results are in!

Congratulations to our Top 3 winners!

Grand Prize Winner:
Rachel S. – “Premier Pirate Pack”

The Premier Pirate Pack includes 5 tremendous tools—a Dreams Plotter, a Crafty Compass, a Daring Divider, a Remarkable Rope and a Transforming Telescope—and a map that transforms into a carrying case. All of the pieces come together to form a fully functional Premier Pirate Pack, ready to take you from zero to sea conquering hero!

Materials Used: recycled clear plastic lid from a roasting pan, duct tape strips reused from another project, leftover cardboard from an old duct tape roll, reused duct tape scraps, plastic straws, reused chenille stick, packing foam cut into strips and braided, plastic zip ties, toilet paper roll tube

Second Place Winner:
Anita B. – “Shuttle Guamera”

Hop aboard Shuttle Guamera, the latest innovation in interplanetary travel! With a combined stature of just over five feet and made from the sturdiest of materials, Guamera is sure to give you the trip of a lifetime as it makes its way to discover a planetary namesake.

Materials Used: Cardboard and cereal boxes, plastic grocery bag, applesauce and yogurt containers, scarf, reusable foam, plastic helicopter, orange cone, pool noodle

Third Place Winner:
Amanda M. – “Enter if You Dare to Scare”

Are you courageous enough to ride this hot air balloon heading through the storm skies to Halloween Island? Enter if you dare!

Materials Used: recycled computer paper, birthday balloon, cardboard box, bandana, Halloween spider web, fishing line

Honorable Mention:
Melaney R. – “Dancing Hula Doll”

Twist, shout and hula! The crank and hula doll are made from Lemon Head candy boxes, paper, ribbon bobbins, and wooden pegs from an old, broken desk. The belt is made from yarn.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Amazing Invention Photo Challenge! Though the contest is over, we hope you’ll continue to be a creative, adventurous and resourceful explorer just like Moana! Explore your house and the world around you to find materials that you can recycle and use to build something new. And be sure to check out the new Moana doll, whose recyclable packaging was created through the use of Disney’s Smart Packaging Initiative and can be transformed into a boat to provide more ways to play.
