Happy DI Holidays!
It’s a great DI day in Maryland! I write this as we wait for the big blizzard to hit Maryland. And many of you are spending this time registering your teams for regional tournament. We have over 500 team paks so far and are expecting many more. How wonderful that we are finishing 2009 with such great participation from all over the State.
Over 200 Maryland DI Team Managers attended our TM trainings this fall, which bodes well for a great DI season. If you are a new Team Manager and didn’t make it to training, ask your Regional Director to assign you to a veteran Team Manager mentor. And all Team Managers should look out for notices about regional pre-tournament trainings/meetings. They are not to be missed.
I spent a DI like moment last night in Hampden, Baltimore City. For those who have not yet visited the light display on 34th Street, it is worth the trip. This kitchy group of neighbors puts together wild and wacky displays – Christmas trees fashioned with hub cabs, tin foil, bicycle wheels, record albums, beer cans and more. There is an awesome display of crabs welded out of recycled metal items and snowmen of bicycle wheels. There are some great casual restaurants in Hampden, so make it an evening and take in the Hampden lights this season.
Before you take off for the holidays, be sure that you have registered your team for the Regional Tournament. The early registration deadline is December 22. After that date, most regions charge a late registration fee. To register, go to www.marylanddi.org and click on “Team Registration.” While you are there, be sure to order your 2010 Maryland DI t-shirt. We are very excited about our bold, bright design. Also, if you know a high school senior that does or has done DI, tell them to check out the MD DI scholarship application on our homepage.
Lastly, keep the DI spirit during the holidays – maybe a little duct tape, hot glue, toilet paper rolls and glitter on the tree will do the trick. Best wishes to you and yours for a happy, healthy and creative holiday season.
